New Zealand

New Zealand is an island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean.  It's population is 5,358,920 per the 2025 census.  The area is 263,310 kilometers or 101,660 square miles.

It's been said that professional wrestling in New Zealand began around 1919 with the success of Gisborne Katene.  He was the country's first wrestling champion.

In 1929, the first promotion was established.  It was named the Dominion Wrestling Union.  An American-born promoter, and wrestler, by the name of Walter Miller came in and began running shows.

Miller would run regular shows until his death in 1959.  The promotion would run well for another couple of years until a decline hit.

In 2000, Mania Pro Wrestling began, and re-emerged in 2003 as Impact Pro Wrestling.  Their headquarters are in  Auckland in the northern area of the country.  Their latest show happened this past May 2025.

Another promotion to check is Southern Pro Wrestling which began in August 2015.  Their headquarters are in Invercargil in the southwest portion of the country.  Their latest show was this past May 2025.
